The present HRM course provides an introduction to HR, suitable for all students interested in pursuing a career in HRM after graduation. Nevertheless, it suits also the interest of the graduates who deal with HR matters as part of their job role.
Through a combination of lectures (provided by the teacher and guest speakers), case studies, projects, games, and on-the-spot competitions, it facilitates the understanding of alternative approaches to managing human resources and it encourages the appreciation of the diversity of factors that motivate employees. It seeks for teaching how to avoid key mistakes in (mis)managing human resources. By the end of the course, the understanding of the HR concepts will be reflected in the student’s skill to:
1. define and explain the HR concepts;
2. identify the HR concepts by providing explanations of some of their main characteristics;
3. classify, compare, and interpret features of the HR concepts.
Students will also develop their ability to identify and make use of HR concepts in brand-new situations/business settings. They will boost their knowledge and skills to critically analyze current issues, trends, practices, and processes in HR, and also to provide relevant alternative solutions for improving or correcting the current situation of an organization.
