The main objective of this course is to provide the students with an overview of the main ethical issues in the field of business and the theoretical and practical tools to tackle them.
The lectures will contribute towards a better understanding of what business ethics is, by providing some clear and important explanations regarding some of the key concepts and theoretical underpinnings of this dynamic academic and scholarly research area: the main ethical theories and their role in evaluating decisions in business, shareholders, stakeholders and Corporate Social Responsibility, business and environmental concerns and what is morally at stake when we think about international business. The course will also examine actual organizational ethics topics, such as discrimination, harassment, diversity or whistleblowing. The lectures will make students understand why business ethics is an important component of the skills that a competitive manager needs on the market nowadays.
The course will combine classical lectures with a rich collection of case studies aimed at allowing students to express their opinions, learn the prerequisites of debating and develop the necessary skills for critical thinking and independent thought. The case studies will cover a wide range of topics, from the impact of new and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and robotics in business, to more classical issues like job outsourcing and sweatshops.
