The main purpose of this lecture is to introduce students to social entrepreneurship and explore its particularities compared with traditional entrepreneurship, starting with opportunity identification up to business idea generation and business model development. It helps students better understand how they can act responsively in the society and business environment by embedding sustainability and social responsibility in traditional businesses or by starting up a social enterprise. The course highlights how various organizational functions are organized and managed in social enterprises, how impact and success could be measured and various scaling strategies are explored. Using real business profiles of inspiring social enterprises, the classes engage students through relevant examples, success stories, case studies and debates while providing them with the necessary methods and tools in order to develop a business plan for a social enterprise and pitch the business idea in a professional and convincing manner.
